North Wales – Easter 2014 (by Max Streeton)

Unusually for North Wales on a Bank Holiday the forecast was looking reasonable, at least for the first couple of days. This was probably why the meet was nearly fully booked. However, with a number of people choosing to camp and the good weather allowing us to take advantage of the new BBQ, things never got too crowded.
A number of people wanted to climb the long VDiff of Amphitheatre buttress. Having climbed it a few times before Lawrence and myself opted for climbing on the wall of the gully to the right. I had avoided this in the past as it always looked rather damp and dank. However the link up of two VSs, Mur y Miwl and The Grimmett, on this provide some of the best VS climbing I had done, on clean sound rock.
Having got down reasonably quickly Lawrence was keen to try the E2 Aura. He made fine work of the 45m first pitch, again excellent climbing. I took over for the second pitch.  The guide said scramble easily to the top, but I still reckon it counts as alternative  leads on an E2!
Back to the hut for a BBQ and a few beers.
Saturday we headed to Llanberis pass. This time climbing as a 3 with Curt and Allan. First completing the classic VS Ribstone crack. We then tried the 3 pitch Bole wall, which provided an interesting outing.
Back to the hut for a BBQ and a few beers.
We also took the opportunity to introduce the sewage eating worms to their new home in the Pen y Clogwyn cesspit. Paul having looked after these in his kitchen for some time was at home with them, but Frodo felt the need for full NBC protection!
Sunday was rather cold and cloudy so we opted for a long VDiff some drive away on the west side of Nantile ridge. We climbed as 3 pairs on two different routes, Alan and myself climbing together on Outside Edge
Another excellent route, and it stayed dry.
A colder and damp evening so no BBQ this time but, of course, more beer.

The forecast for the Monday included showers so we opted for a mass walk over Cnict. It of course then stayed dry and sunny, but we did find some slab bouldering to do, Interesting in big boots.
This is just my activities but with the large group plenty more was going on, including walking, mountain biking and mine exploring.
